On the 15th of January 2016 Drupal turned 15 years.
It’s been an amazing and exciting journey through these 15 years. Drupal has grown to become one of the world’s most advanced, robust, extensible and flexible open source software with a community of more than one million users and developers.
Everybody knows that 15 years in internet terms is like a billion years in real world. In 2001 only 7% of the world population had access to internet and less than 20% of the world’s population had a mobile phone. The mobile internet has not been in the picture yet, neither Facebook or Twitter.
Looking back over the years, Drupal has released 8 versions. The latest version, Drupal 8, has been released in October 2015 after 3 years development phase. In only 3 months, until the end of 2015, there were already 41.716 websites built using Drupal 8.
Drupal is for everyone, this is proved by the fact that the software is currently translated in more than 100 different languages and support is included for right-to-left languages such as Persian, Arabic and Hebrew.
Currently, there are available 32.963 modules, 2240 themes and 1095 distributions and these numbers are continuously growing thanks to the great community.
The Drupal community organize DrupalCon, Drupal Camps, meetups where users and developers have the chance to share and gain experience. Attendance at DrupalCon grew from 40 participant in 2005 in Antwerp, Belgium to over 3000 attendees at Los Angeles USA in 2015.
There are over 1 million websites all around the world built using Drupal. It’s power has been recognized by many organizations and governments: the official website of the White House, Nasa, NBC, University of Oxford, Twitter, Tesla Motors, etc.
AG Prime is one of the founding members of the Drupal Romania Association, an entity that supports the development of the software and the community by providing, funding, infrastructure, supporting event organization and promoting and distributing Drupal.
AG Prime support the local communities by organizing trainings, meetups and coding sessions. In 2015 we were one of the organizers of Drupal Camp Cluj-Napoca, the fifth major Drupal event in Romania since 2010 with more than 200 participants.
We have also created and published two Drupal modules and contributed to develop many others.
See our latest projects in Drupal here: Digital Citizen, Alinea Customer Portal, etc. You can see our entire portfolio here.
There’s no doubt that Drupal has a bright future ahead, so happy birthday Drupal and keep up the good work!
